So What’s Treatment?
The Indian model of Naturopathic Healthcare integrates the following modalities, and is astoundingly effective:
• Nutrition & Juicing
• Fasting
• Hydrotherapy
• Massage & Physiotherapy
• Yoga Therapy
• Acupuncture
But what does treatment look like? Well before we look at treatment lets ground ourselves in the fundamental principles that underpin the practice of Naturopathy. For a more detailed insight we invite you to view our documentary Nature Cure: The Revival on YouTube or alternatively take a look at our 2 minute trailer.
Cornerstones of Treatment
Naturopathy is very much a system of cleansing the body. It is said in Naturopathy that when simultaneously the process of Intoxication stops and the process of Detoxification begins, Healing occurs very rapidly. Likewise at Nature Heal we’re big on cleansing. We provide a a guided Internal Hygiene Plan showing you how to cleanse your body, and we take you through the processes step by step. Straight forward, this plan is designed to be incorporated into your lifestyle with minimum fuss.
Naturopathic philosophy asserts that overwhelmingly, illness is caused due to an accumulation of toxicity. Naturopathy considers a toxin to be anything that has not been digested, absorbed or eliminated. Naturopathic Healthcare therefore aims to restore Health by eliminating toxicity from the body.
The list below outlines the key principles to restoring health:
• Internal Hygiene is promoted.
• The process of Intoxication via poor food and drink choices, stops.
• The process of Elimination or Detoxification begins.
• Body pH: Moderate alkalinity, as opposed to acidity, is promoted.
• Fasting: When relieved of the burden of digestion, the body heals itself.
• Exercise: In the form of Yoga, is encouraged.
• Lifestyle: Health promoting lifestyle choices are taught to all.
Treatment
At all times treatment is consistent with the principles listed above. Interventions received are specific to the respective condition and then tailored to the individual patient. Let’s look at three examples; these descriptions are by no means exhaustive:
• Type II Diabetes
• Lower Back Pain
• Asthma
Type II Diabetes
• Nutrition: Complex carbohydrates are promoted with plenty of roughage and fibre. Animal protein is avoided. Simple carbohydrates are not consumed due to glucose spikes.
• Juices: Bittergourd juice is given. This juice is a strong hypoglycemic agent which has been the subject of clinical testing in India.
• Fasting: Periods of fasting are known to reduce blood glucose levels.
• Hydrotherapy: Several techniques are available however specific to Type II Diabetes is a ‘GH Pack’. Here a hot water bottle is placed over the pancreas region and an ice pack placed over the corresponding area on the back under the scapula. Blood circulation to the pancreatic area is stimulated.
• Massage: Pancreatic / abdominal massage.
• Yoga: Specific sequences of Yoga postures are given for Type II Diabetes, these are backed up by a wealth of clinical testing.
• Acupuncture: Specific combinations of acupoints are noted to have an effect on blood glucose levels.
Lower Back Pain
• Nutrition: All patients have similar diets at Nature Cure centres. This is the same for people that present with back pain. Diet is as described above.
• Juices: General / variety of juices to promote health.
• Fasting: Patients will do a short fast for general health promotion.
• Hydrotherapy: Hip baths, hot steam sprays over lower back area, steam cabins.
• Massage & Physiotherapy: Regular massage and electrotherapy, ultrasound.
• Yoga: Specific sequences of Yoga postures are prescribed.
• Acupuncture: Specific acupoints for lower back pain.
Asthma
• Nutrition & Juicing: Same diet as above specifically excluding dairy products.
• Fasting: Patients will do a short fast for general health promotion.
• Hydrotherapy: Foot and arm baths stimulating blood circulation to the trunk, trunk packs, hot vapour facial steams, hot water bottle over chest and upper back.
• Massage & Physiotherapy: General massage
• Yoga Therapy: Yogic cleanses to eliminate mucus from the upper part of the respiratory tract. Pranic breathing supplies blood to lungs and strengthens them. Specific sequences of postures that cause expansion of the chest.
• Acupuncture: Specific acupoints are needled.
